So we all know the huge in-fight within the Twi community: Team Jacob or Team Edward. Eclipse is the book that really pits them against each other. What are your opinions on the conduct of each? Was Jacob justified in his behaviour, was Edward too forgiving etc...?

Anyways, to answer your question, I am team switzerland because I like both Jacob and Edward. Edward wayyy more though. In Eclipse, I thought Jacob was a complete jerk. Not only does she try to make Bella choose between him and Edward (ultimately messing with her feelings which is emotional abuse), but he also manipulates and forces Bella to kiss him. Not only that, but he KNEW she couldn't fight him off if she tried. But of course, all Jacob cares about is himself sometimes. Thats rly one of his flaws. This gets better in Breaking Dawn, though. As for Edward, i love him and all, but I think Bella shouldn't have taken him back so fast after he left her. She should have made him wait awhile, so he could feel the same pain she felt when he was gone. I got so mad at him when that happened. Another flaw about Edward is also that sometimes he gets too controlling. I know he wants to protect her, but sometimes if I was Bella I would literally slap him, lol. Do I sound like an anti? Sorry XDD.

Jake in Eclipse does behave like a jerk. An utter moron in fact. And he does act in a very selfish manner. I still think deep down he's a good guy and he just got frustrated because Bella couldn't see she loved him. TBH I might even feel the same in his position. I mean we the readers could clearly see she was in love with Jacob. Pretty much throughout Eclipse I was screaming at Bella to get her act straight and step out of denial.

I don't think Bella should have taken him back so quickly either, but it is Edward and I can't honestly say I wouldn't take him back no matter what lol. Seriously speaking though it does kind of set a bad example to girls reading the book. That a guy can mess them about and leave them broken hearted and yet the girl should forgive them instantly when they come back with their tail between their legs.

I also don't think Edward should have forgiven Bella without question when she kisses jake. OK she was manipulated into it but still, she's meant to be so in love with Edward that it dominates her every fibre. Even though Jake made her kiss him, she didn't have to enjoy it! That was a complete betrayal.

haha. I think Jake is a good guy, but in Eclipse he was an ass. He's awesome in Breaking Dawn, though. Your right about Edward shouldn't have forgiven Bella after she kisses Jake. Idk, it seems to me that Edward is the only one who deeply and truly loves Bella in the relationship. Bella...meh. It seems more like lust to me with her. Just my opinion. She really shouldn't have kissed Jake. At all. Talk about not being loyal. I completely lost my sympathy for her after that. Total betrayal.

yeah i hate jacob. that shouldn't come as any surprise. he is arrogant. what gets me the most is how throughout all the books he tries to convince bella that he cares about her and wants what's best for her. but throughout eclipse he proves again and again the he only wants whats best for bella as long as she picks him. he has a one track mind and the only thing that he cares about is getting bella with him. he doesn't care who he hurts... he also proves again and again that he is NOT the right one for bella. pretending to commit suicide, kissing someone against their will, telling her that he'd rather see her DEAD!? jacob doesnt care about bella as a person. he cares about bella as long as she picks him. does that make any sense at all lol??

and as for bella forgiving edward too soon, i dont think thats the case at all. for one, like ally (i think) said, not ONE of us would handle that differently that bella. you may think you would, but you wouldn't. also, its not like edward hit her, or raped her, or left her because he thought he didnt love her and then changed his mind. he left her because he honestly thought that he was no good for her and that it was for the best. and lola, edward DID feel plenty of pain while she was gone... its not like bella was the only one suffering. was i sound like a hopeless edward fangirl. haha its true though. i know i didnt explain myself well though so i understand if you disagree lol. i just dont know how to explain it!

as for the jake/bella kiss at the end of eclipse, theres something we all agree on!!!! edward was WAYYYY too forgiving about that. and bella. omg. i wanted to jump in the book and punch her repeatedly until she came to her senses. its edward. edward cullen. edward FREAKING CULLEN. and she kissing jacob black. EDWARD. that was soooooooo wrong. and if ANYTHING that sends the wrong message out. "sure, go kiss other guys... your man will forgive you because whoever you pick with have unending patience. i always alway always alwaysss cry at the end of eclipse when edward asks bella is shes SURE that she made the right choice. gahhhhH!

I lost all my sympathy for Bella in Eclipse too. I just couldn't empathise with her at all anymore. And thats when I realised how totally awesome all the other female characters are.
I never really felt that Bella loved Edward. She's fascinated by him and attracted to him but I never got love from her. Whereas Edward clearly loves her more than she deserves.

Agreed. Have you ever noticed that when Bella talks about Edward, it's always about his godliness, him being beautiful and perfect, blah blah blah. It's never anything about his personality or him as a person.

^ Yeah. The only time she mentions his personality is when she's forced into it by Jake. All the way in the third book of the saga. Befor that there's barely a mention of his personality, or anything beyond his looks.

You know what I thought was total BS? In Breaking Dawn, when Bella said if the baby was a boy, his name would be Edward Jacob. You gotta be kidding me. Can you imagine how much that would hurt Edward? Jacob sexually assaulted her, for god's sake.

I second this. LIONLAMB (I'm calling you like this because I don't know your name) you're making my job easy. Read and second everything you say. but there's one thing I want to say. Although Edward may have been seen as too forgiving, I think he kind of did the right thing. His action, or better, his "non-action" (because, after all, he didn't do anything), made Bella feel really uncomfortable, because he was too forgiving. So, maybe, being too forgiving was like a punishment. In some sort of way that makes no sense at all.

^ ^ Edward was like doing reverse psychology. Even if it's the very first time he experienced falling in love, he knew what to do & what not to do.

But, I still say if it were I, Edward won't have to do nothing. He'll have lots to do with me. *ahemmm* well get married right away.
